Supporting Children and Families
“I’d just like to thank you for the incredible transition programme you have offered this summer. From the moment we received our offer letter, the support you have provided both my son and us as parents, has been top notch. I have lots of friends whose children are going to other schools and they are impressed (and a bit jealous) of all the activities and information you have offered him ahead of him starting at Laurel Park School. Thank you. My son has zero anxiety about moving to your school, in fact he can’t wait!”

At Laurel Park, we are proud of the programme we provide to support both children and their families on the journey from Primary to Secondary. We recognise that this time can be one of many emotions; excitement, trepidation and enthusiasm. We ensure that from Secondary Offer Day onwards you have access to all the information you need about Laurel Park School.

Transition Programme
The transition programme at Laurel Park is unique and recognised as a model of best practice. We believe strongly that transition is not just 'one day in July'. From the moment our new intake receive their offer letters in March, they are part of the school community and have a variety of opportunities to attend school and get excited about their move to secondary school.
We start with the Welcome Evening on Thursday 6th March 2025. This is meeting at school between 6-7pm where parents and pupils can find out more information about Laurel Park School and ask any initial questions.
The next event is the Early Taster Day on Tuesday 13th March. The induction will involve a variety of exciting activities that will enable your child to start to familiarise themselves with Laurel Park and prepare them for the transition to secondary school. Your son or daughter will be using our Science laboratories, experiencing an English lesson, taking part in a PE lesson on one of our 6 trampolines and participating in some inclusive workshops around secondary school transition.
Following that, your child is invited to a series of Year 6 Masterclasses in May and June on various dates at 4-5pm in the summer term. The masterclasses include Computing, Food Technology, English, Maths, Drama and PE.
On Wednesday 18th June, we have our Induction Evening where you are strongly encouraged to attend with your child, even if you have an older sibling as transition information changes year on year.
We then offer our main Induction Day on Thursday 3rd July. This day is for the entire Year 7 cohort, who spend the day with us meeting teachers, making new friends and leaving all the information they need to start September in Year 7.
Whilst all this is going on, our senior teachers and SENDCO are visiting our primary feeder schools, meeting the Year 6 teachers and finding out everything we need to know to help your child settle into Laurel Park.
In September we look to settle the children into Year 7 as quickly and smoothly as possible. They arrive on the first day and we find that they quickly settle into the new routine of secondary school life.
We encourage all of our Year 7 pupils to participate in the wide range of extra-curricular clubs, and at least 3 whole year group trips.
